Welcome to the Basilica of Saint John the Evangelist
Founded in the 1850s by Irish immigrants, the Basilica of Saint John the Evangelist is the Mother Church, and Minor Basilica, of Stamford, Connecticut.
Salus Populi Romani
Our lady, protectress of the Roman People,
Help Us in Stamford!
The image of Our Lady arrived in Rome 590 AD during the pontificate of Pope Gregory the Great. The Pope welcomed the image in person, sailing the Tiber River in procession with Her, praying for Rome during the plague.
Let us Pray:
Hail, holy Queen, Mother of mercy, our life, our sweetness, and our hope.To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve. To thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears.Turn then, most gracious Advocate, thine eyes of mercy towards us. And after this, our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus. O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary.
Our Lady, Pray for us in Stamford!
