Confirmation for young adults is part of the Religious Education Program.
Confirmation is a two-year program, beginning with the pre-Confirmation class and ending with the Confirmation class. The registration fee for the pre-Confirmation class is $150 and Confirmation class is $200. These classes meet on Sunday evenings. The optional summer Camp Veritas is $300 per student. If you are new to our program, please send us copies of your Baptismal and First Communion Certificates to fully complete your registration. Please contact the Director of Religious Education to learn more about this two-year program.
All Confirmation candidates will need to choose a Sponsor and a Confirmation saint name months prior to receiving the Sacrament.
Choosing a sponsor: A Confirmation sponsor is a Catholic adult to be chosen by the candidate who serves as an example in the Catholic faith and accompanies the candidate as they prepare to receive the Sacrament. You should choose someone who can be a model of the faith and someone who you can relate to. The sponsor chosen must be at least 16 years of age, has themselves received the Sacraments of Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation, and is a practicing Catholic. The sponsor may NOT be one of the candidate’s parents. All sponsors will need to fill out the “Confirmation Sponsor Certificate” (provided by the Basilica) and bring it to the church at which they are registered and/or they attend regularly. This certificate must be signed by a priest and sealed with the church seal in order to be valid.
Choosing a Saint name: You should select the name of a Saint you can identify with, either in the virtues they engender or in the profession or hobbies they patron. Take some time researching different Saints before you decide on one that is appropriate for you. Once you have researched your Saint, you will need to fill out the “My Confirmation Saint Name” worksheet (provided by the Basilica).
For adults who have not yet been Confirmed, please contact the parish office at 203-324-1553 ex 1. Adult Confirmation is usually administered by the Bishop of Bridgeport in June each year.
